The PFCCO - Northern Mindanao League was registered with the Cooperative Development Authority last February 8, 1998 under Certificate No. CGY-F-2490. It is presently comprised by 70 primary cooperatives based in the City of Cagayan de Oro, Province of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Surigao del Norte, and Agusan del Norte as well as those operating in Wao, Lanao del Sur. Total resources as of February 28, 1998 totals P2.8 million.
Before it was registered as a separate legal entity, the League was already operating as a regional layer of a national organization known as the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives (PFCCO). It is one of the thirteen leagues of PFCCO all over the country. During the PFCCO’s 37th General Assembly held in Malolos, Bulacan last May 22 and 23, 1997, the membership of PFCCO approved the “PFCCO League Enhancement Program.” The enhancement program calls for the strengthening of all thirteen leagues and its eventual registration.
Even at the time that it was still a regioanl layer of the National PFCCO, the Northern Mindanao League was already performing the following functions: Savings mobilization, inter-lending, membership recruitment, and membership strenthening through training, consultancy and networking. The League helps groups form into coops and assists them register their coops with the CDA. It also provides such services as insurance, bonding, inter-trading of farm produce and the supply of coop office supplies. In addition, it fields a team of volunteer bookkeepers and auditors. With the decentralization of these services under the Leagues enhancement program, the membership of the League will have easier access and can facilitate their dealings with PFCCO.
